UN listing for Danxia Landform
CHINA'S Danxia Landform areas were added to a world list of natural heritage sites yesterday.
The UNESCO World Heritage Committee included Danxia Landform in its World Heritage List at its 34th meeting in Brasilia, Brazil.
Danxia Landform refers to various landscapes found in southeast and southwest China consisting of red sandstone and characterized by steep cliffs - a unique type of petrographic geomorphology found in China.
The listing comprises six areas found in the sub-tropical zone of southwest China: Langshan Mountain and Wanfoshan Mountain (Hunan Province), Danxiashan Mountain (Guangdong Province), Taining and Guanzhoushan (Fujian Province), Longhushan Mountain and Guifeng (Jiangxi Province), Chishui Mountain (Guizhou Province), Fangyan and Jianglangshan Mountain (Zhejiang Province).
While hailing it as China's 40th world heritage site, tourists may face higher ticket prices - a frequent consequence at many sites after they were listed.
Zhang Tong, vice director of Chishui City Tourism Bureau in southwest China's Guizhou Province, said a month ago that it would raise prices for Chishui Mountain after the Danxia Landform was added to the heritage list.
More tourists will be attracted to the mountain and money needed to improve management of the site.
