US Vice President arrives in Beijing from Tokyo

US Vice President Joe Biden today arrived in Beijing for a two-day official visit to China.

Biden is visiting Japan, China and South Korea, amid the international concern over China’s new Air Defense Identification Zone over the East China Sea. China’s foreign ministry has expressed optimism over the visit, calling for joint efforts to build a new model of bilateral ties, based on non-conflict, non-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation.

The Chinese foreign ministry has reiterated that the zone was established purely to defend China’s territorial and airspace security. The ministry is calling for more understanding and coordination from countries concerned over the issue, and hopes Biden’s visit will help to bring about such understanding.
