US doctors rule out need for another surgery on Niu Niu
THE toddler saved in a fall from her 10th floor apartment is recovering amazingly, American doctors said after a remote diagnosis this morning.
Through remote video diagnosis, experts from the University of California at Los Angeles had a half-hour consultation on the case of the two-year-old Zhang Fangyu, better known as Niu Niu, who suffered fractures in her fall on July 2 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.
The girl was caught by a young woman whose outstretched arms cushioned her fall and saved her life.
Niu Niu is recovering well at the No. 2 Hospital of Zhejiang University Medical School and can move her left limbs and stand with a walker. Her vision has also improved to the normal level and all her fractures have healed.
However, her left leg is still and she can only walk a few steps with a walker. Her left fingers can bend but cannot stretch due to impaired nerves, said Zhang Jianmin, a doctor at the neurosurgery department of the hospital.
The doctors were considering another surgery on Niu Niu to solve the problem and they consulted UCLA experts in a video conference. One American doctor said the girl had not yet reached the point for another surgery.
