US$16 million profit forecast for Games

A BEIJING Olympics official yesterday said the Games would make a profit of US$16 million, Beijing-based media reported today.

Sponsors had ensured the financial goals of the Beijing Olympics, Jiang Xiaoyu, Executive Vice-President of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympics, said at the annual CPPCC meeting, according to a Beijing Times report.

The Beijing Olympics should produce a net profit of US$16 million with an expected income of US$1.625 billion and expenditure of US$1.609 billion, according to Jiang, who is also one of the country's top political advisers.

The National Audit Office started auditing at the end of last year. Financial settlements and auditing are the primary task of the organizing committee, Jiang said.

The organizing committee has asked the China Beijing Equity Exchange to auction the remaining Olympic-related objects.

The value of already-auctioned items has increased by about one third despite the global economic downturn, Jiang said.
