Unclaimed 9.17m yuan given to charity

A LOTTERY jackpot of 9.17 million yuan (US$1.34 million) has been given to charity after the owner of the winning ticket failed to claim it within the two-month deadline.

The China Welfare Lottery ticket was sold for 4 yuan at Wuhan, capital city of central China's Hubei Province, today's Changjiang Daily reported.

The prize was drawn on October 18 with two winners. The other winner in Yidou, also in Hubei, has claimed the jackpot.

Under lottery regulations, unclaimed prizes are donated to charity rather than being returned to the jackpot pool.

This is the second biggest unclaimed lottery prize in China. The previous was in February when 9.22 million yuan went unclaimed in the Lotto draw.
