'Uncle House' graft rap
AN official dubbed "Uncle House" by web users, who owned far more properties than he should have been able to afford, stood trial yesterday in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province.
Cai Bin, an official with Guangzhou's Panyu District, was charged with taking bribes, reported Haizhu District People's Court in Guangzhou.
Prosecutors said Cai received 2.75 million yuan (US$450,000) in bribes while in the posts of deputy chief of the district's public security bureau, head of its municipal management bureau and political commissar, between 1993 and 2012.
He should be jailed for between 11 to 14 years as he had confessed, said prosecutors.
The court will announce its verdict at a later date.
Cai came to notice after web users posted pictures of his 22 properties and referred to him as "Uncle House."
