Unconvinced suspect flies to Beijing to surrender
POLICE in Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province, brought back a suspect who allegedly injured a demolition worker in his village but flew to Beijing to surrender himself to police there because he didn't trust authorities in his hometown.
The suspect, Tong Yihong, is in police custody on charges of causing social disorder in Hongshan District of Wuhan, Beijing News reported today.
Tong, a villager, went to Beijing's Chaoyang District Shuangjing Public Security Bureau on Saturday to turn himself in for throwing bricks at a group of demolition workers and wounding one on Thursday.
Tong said he was shocked when police called his family to notify him of the detention order because the worker was in coma with life-threatening injury.
Tong said he hurled bricks aimlessly and didn't see anyone hurt on the spot. Tong decided to go to Beijing as he suspected the local police may use the case to "set him up."
