Undercover officers manhandled by peers in bathhouse raid

A team of police officers in plainclothes were assaulted by their colleagues from another police station in Jingjiang City, Jiangsu Province, when they raided a local bathhouse on suspicion of offering prostitution service, a Chinese news Web portal reported today.

Undercover officers from Chengdong police station were intercepted by their colleagues from Xinqu police station on the night of August 7 when they attempted to take away suspects from the bathhouse in Xinqu, reported Voice of China.

The plainclothes were beaten by more than 30 of their peers from Xinqu station even though they had showed their badges.

Xinqu officers freed all the suspects at the scene but put their Chengdong colleagues in squad cars and held them there until senior leaders arrived.

Chengdong officers said they received tip-off ahead of their operation but denied to disclose further details about the fight with Xinqu station.

Several of Chengdong officers were injured in the incident but still served their duties after that, the report said.

An officer in the Chengdong station told Voice of China that it might be all about misunderstanding.
