Uni professor accused of molestation

A HISTORY professor at Xiamen University in southeast China’s Fujian Province was suspended yesterday in response to allegations he molested his female students.
Wu Chunming was named in a blog post by a person claiming to be a victim and saying he “enticed” women into having sex with him.
The post, which included a photograph of the professor in bed and partially nude, was allegedly made in support of another woman who claimed in her blog last month to have been molested by a tutor from the history department.
She referred to him only as a “beastly professor.”
In a statement released yesterday, Xiamen University said a team has been set up to investigate the case.
During the probe, Wu will be prohibited from teaching, enrolling or advising students, it said.
“We will not tolerate any unethical behavior by the faculty,” it said.
On Friday, Wu was voted off the management committee of the history department.
It is not known if the case will be referred to the police.
Neither Wu nor the bloggers were available for comment yesterday.
Born in 1966, Wu is an expert in archeology and ancient history and has published numerous works.
