A UNIVERSITY student caused bloody chaos in a Taipei Metro train this afternoon, hacking four people to death while injuring 21 other passengers, local media reported.
The man, who was identified as a 21-year-old universtiy student surnamed Zheng, suddenly took out a knife, about 10 centimeters long, and hacked others in the Metro train about 4pm, the reports said.
A 47-year-old woman and two young men, ages 20 and 30, were stabbed to death at the scene. An elderly woman was pronounced dead at hospital later yesterday. A total of 21 others were injured, some of them seriously.
Police arrested Zheng after they arrived at the scene about 4:35pm. At the police station, he confessed that he began to premeditate the attack "since childhood," and called it "a great cause," the reports said.
Zheng said his original plan was to launch the attack after graduation, but last week he decided to move up the date to today, according to the reports.
