Upscale Chinese cuisine attracts gourmets into Danish top amusement park

UPSCALE Chinese cuisine has come for the first time to Denmark's renowned amusement park Tivoli since Friday, with prize-winning Chinese chef's presence at its famous restaurant Nimb Brasserie to offer foodies haute Chinese food.

Parts of Nimb Brasserie in the world's second oldest amusement park has converted into a Chinese gourmet venue. Wang Yong, top chef from the Four Seasons Hotel in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province in east China, together with his team from the award-winning Jinsha Restaurant at the hotel, is presenting high-end Chinese cuisine at a level rarely encountered in Scandinavia.

Taking inspirations from Shanghai gastronomy and applying a touch of Cantonese elegance, Wang and his team's pop-up features dishes from the rich culinary tradition of Hangzhou, which Wang himself describes as "Everything between heaven and earth -- and between paradise in heaven and paradise on earth! That is the taste of Hangzhou."

Besides the traditional poached fish with Hangzhou sweet vinegar sauce, braised pork in soy sauce on pumpkin rolls, some innovative dishes such as foie gras with hazelnuts in an onion pancake and squid in wasabi mayonnaise can also be found in the menu and are widely enjoyed by gourmets from different countries.

Gin Isabel Kristensen, the manager of Nimb Brasserie, said the Chinese food in Scandinavia is normally served in the form of buffet. "With Wang's 20 years' experience and international renown, now people here get an unique chance to sample Chinese haute cuisine. we like the way he is making food."

Tivoli is the most famous amusement park and pleasure garden in Denmark. The park opened on 15 August 1843 and is the second oldest amusement park of the world. Official statistics show that with 4.2 million visitors in 2013, Tivoli became also the second most popular seasonal theme park all over the world and the most visited theme park in Scandinavia.
