Urban management officials jailed for man's death
AN urban management official in Liaoyang City, northeast Liaoning Province was sentenced to 11 years in prison for beating a heart patient in a brawl and causing his death.
Prosecutors said Zhang Song and his two colleagues tried to stop the victim, Zhou Xiaoming, from building a path outside his house in this May and ended up in a brawl. Zhou started the fight but Zhang hit him and triggered his heart attack, the Legal Daily reported today.
Zhang's colleagues were also involved in the fight. They were sentenced to three years in jail, the paper said.
Zhou who underwent a heart surgery in 2010 collapsed with foams coming out of his mouth after Zhang hit him. He was announced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Zhou's family appealed the verdict because they believed the law enforcement officials were guilty of intentional homicide, not intentional injure.
