Urban planning officials suspended over man's death
THREE county government officials in central China's Henan Province have been suspended from duty after an old man was beaten up during a forced demolition and died later.
The three officials of the Luyi County Urban Planning Bureau are now being investigated for their responsibilities for the incident, the Beijing Times reported today.
Dozens of law enforcement officials from the bureau came to the house of Liu Yuexian, 66, to knock it down as an illegal building on May 1.
Liu and his son were beaten up in the confrontation. His son suffered a fracture while Liu died of wounds in a local hospital, the report said.
A county government official said they were waiting for an autopsy report to determine the real cause of Liu's death.
