Vegetable, wheat aid for farms prioritized
The Ministry of Agriculture yesterday sent seven teams to oversee and help agricultural work in major wheat and vegetable production centers in north China as a strong cold wave swept across the region from Saturday.
Snowstorms and a temperature plunge caused by a strong cold snap have hit a vast range of areas in the country, bringing adverse effects on agricultural production.
Experts and personnel were sent to eight provinces to help farmers restore damaged greenhouses and improve water and fertilizer usage to ensure supplies of wheat and vegetables in markets.
They will also provide farmers with advice and measures against plant disease and insect pests and guide them in taking care of winter crops to lay the foundations for a good summer harvest.
The ministry has urged agricultural departments at all levels to respond to the cold weather emergency promptly, and help farmers take preventative measures and help them reduce losses to the minimum level.
