Video highlights relations with Britain

A VIDEO highlighting the growing relationship between China and the United Kingdom has been released ahead of President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Britain this week.

It’s the latest in a series about China from the Fuxinglushang Studio, which became known for its cartoon depicting the different ways state leaders of China, the US and UK achieved their positions.

The 2013 production proved hugely popular and became the first in a series called “Follow Xi.”

The latest video quotes people on both sides of the Sino-UK relationship

Peter Johansen, a London Taxi Company executive, says he only knows three words in Chinese — kuai, kuai, kuai, meaning hurry, hurry, hurry.

But he’s full of praise for Chinese car manufacturer Geely which, in 2013, rescued the iconic black taxi cab maker from bankruptcy.

“That was one of the best things that could have happened to the company,” Johansen said.

“They look to us as being the wise old men because we have been building cars for 100 years. We look to them for innovation.”

A student called Charlie from the UK’s Dane Royd Junior and Infant School in West Yorkshire said his favorite Chinese word is nihao, or hello. “I think hello is quite important,” he says.

Xian Bowen, a student at Dane Royd’s Chinese partner school, Longjiang Road Primary in Chengdu in southwest China, tells viewers of his love of cricket and, in true British style, makes a joke about the weather. He likes cricket, but he “likes London’s weather more” he says, glancing skyward for signs of rain.

Charlie said his message to Chinese friends was that he hoped they would carry on being friends for many years.

The studio also interviewed Cai Tian and Guan Bowen, students at the University of London who play in one of its football team.

One of them praises football fan Xi’s efforts in promoting the sport in China and hopes that “maybe one day we can bring the Chinese national team to the World Cup once again.”
