Videocam captures babysitter abusing toddler

A video clip showing a babysitter abusing a 10-month-old child when her mother was away triggered an outcry on the Internet.

The baby's mother surnamed Gao in northeast China's Liaoning Province said the 40-year-old babysitter surnamed Liang remained a recommended candidate by her agent company despite her complaints, Shenyang Evening News reported today.

Gao said she hired Liang with a monthly pay of 2,400 yuan (US$371) last October. But she soon found her daughter start to have wounds and Liang attributed them to the girl's careless slips and falls. She installed a surveillance camera last month after her husband said he heard Liang beat the girl.

The camera showed Liang frequently beat, scolded and even threw her on bed. The angry couple immediately fired Liang, but they failed to bring her to court because there was no law governing such behaviors.

When Gao went to the agent company to demand compensation, she heard a broker was still finding jobs for Liang. Gao said she was afraid that more babies might suffer in the hands of this vicious babysitter.
