Village chief among 3 detained in frame-up of Party official in Henan

THREE people, including a village chief, have been detained over accusations they framed the local Party chief by planting drugs in his car in central China’s Henan Province, a local newspaper reported today.

Zhang Gao, a village head of Shangshui county, Zhoukou city, had a feud with the village Party chief over a business the two of them run. Zhang and his friend Xu Jian are accused of carrying out a plot for revenge. They were detained for making false accusations, police said.

In early October, the village chief and his friend are accused of spending 5,000 yuan (US$823) to buy 10 grams of drugs from a drug dealer who was later detained on suspicion of drug trafficking.

Then Zhang Gao invited Zhang Jun, the village party chief, who is not related, to play cards and during the game, Zhang Gao stole the car key of the Party chief, the report said. That gave him the chance to make a copy of the key secretly.

His friend Xu Jian used the key to open the trunk of Zhang Jun’s car and plant the drug with the help of the drug dealer, the report said.

The two village heads drove to a public bath center on October 30 and Xu called police, reporting that Zhang Jun kept drugs in his car, said the report.

Zhang Jun was taken to a police station after police found the drugs in his car, though he said he knew nothing about what happened.

Police investigated the case and Xu Jian admitted the frame-up, officials said. Xu, Zhang Gao and the drug dealer were detained last week.

A further investigation into the case is under way.
