Villager sets mahjong room ablaze, killing 3, injuring 17
THREE people were killed and another 17 injured in a village in northeast China after a man poured gasoline on a group of people who were playing mahjong and set the fire.
Li Xinbo in Bali Village of Zhaodong City, Heilongjiang Province broke into the house of Dong Liyou and poured two buckets of gasoline on the floor around 8pm on Monday, Beijing News reported today.
Li, who was said to be drunk at that time, lit up the gasoline and screamed "I will burn you to death!" said Sun Changjun, the village leader who was in the house, the report said.
Among the 30-plus people playing mahjong in the house, three died at the scene. Another 17 were sent to hospital and five of them suffered severe burns, said Li Zongyu, a doctor at the No. 5 People's Hospital in Harbin, the provincial capital, according to the report.
Villagers used to gather at Li Xinbo's house to play mahjong and he earned several hundred yuan each day for running the mahjong parlor. But recently they have moved to Dong's house, which was probably why Li Xinbo held a grudge against Dong, some villagers said.
Li is still at large and police are conducting a manhunt.
