Villagers back Party chief in corruption case
HUNDREDS of people in a south China village took to the street to back their former Party Secretary who has been accused of embezzling 3 billion yuan (US$439 million) during his 20-year tenure.
More than 400 villagers said they would support Chen Caixing, former Party Secretary of Shenzhen City's Shayi Village, because he had transformed their poor fishing village into the richest one in south China, reported Guangzhou Daily today.
Chen is now the president of Shayi Village's township enterprise, in which all villagers have shares.
Every villager is paid at least 4,500 yuan a year in dividends from the township enterprise, according to the report.
One unnamed villager accused Chen online of amassing more than 3 billion yuan worth of land, property, and limousines.
