Villager’s sudden wealth leads police to drugs ring
A DRUGS ring operating in several provinces has been busted, police in Xuchang in central China’s Henan Province said yesterday.
Police apprehended 22 suspects and seized about 18 kilograms of heroin, more than 2.5 million yuan (US$403,649) in cash and four vehicles.
Their suspicions were aroused after a villager surnamed Zhang in Xuchang’s Xiangcheng County suddenly became rich in 2013.
After investigating Zhang, police were led to the drugs ring.
Police discovered more than 20 members had been purchasing drugs from southwest China’s Yunnan Province and transporting them to Xiangcheng.
The drugs were distributed across Yunnan, Guangdong, Hunan, Hebei, Anhui and Henan provinces.
The 22 suspects were seized between August to October and prosecutors in Xiangcheng announced their arrest for drug dealing and trafficking offences earlier this month.
