Violent protesters wanted

A BATCH of protesters are wanted by Hunan Province's Chengzhou Police after they overturned five police vehicles in a protest walk against the government regulation on banning motorcycles from downtown areas.

The police issued a public announcement on Tuesday that they had confirmed a batch of suspects disturbing social order and violating local laws in Monday's protest and they warned those suspects to surrender themselves to the police in three days, according to the Beijing News.

Residents who catch the wanted suspects and turn them into the police are offered an award of 10,000 yuan while those who contribute to the arrest of the suspects with valid information will receive 5,000 yuan as reward, said the newspaper.
A total of 13 protesters have been detained by the police for disturbing social order on Monday.

More than 1,000 people, most of whom were motorcyclists, gathered near a Chenzhou City's municipal government office building on Monday, demanding to see the city mayor, Xiang Lili.

The protesters were gathering to ask the government to withdraw a regulation banning motorcycles without downtown licenses and some moped, even the popular electronic mopeds, from downtown areas.

Many policemen soon arrived at the office building and blocked the entrance.

Angry protestors overturned five police cars and a law enforcement vehicle of the city's industrial and commercial department in the vandalism.
According to the newspaper, Chenzhou City government officials held a committee meeting on Monday evening and reached a conclusion that they would carry out the regulation till the end.

Some residents of Chenzhou City were unsatisfied with the government's final desicion, especially the regulation on banning electronic mopeds that were popular among many commuters.

"The government should be more considerate to commuters," said a netizen who claimed to be Chenzhou resident on sina.com.

"The buses are too crowded and they often came every 30 minutes. How am I supposed to go to work now?"
While the newspaper said some people believed the Chenzhou government issued the banning to earn the city the fame of the nation's civilized city, garden city and clean city.
