Virus man placed in quarantine
CHINA’S health authority has confirmed the country’s first imported case of Rift Valley fever (RVF).
A 45-year-old man from Henan Province began to suffer joint and muscle pain, fever and headaches in Angola on July 14, the National Health and Family Planning Commission said yesterday.
On July 21, he returned to Beijing and was admitted to hospital for quarantine and treatment. On Saturday evening, he tested positive for RVF and is currently in a critical condition, the NHFPC said.
The risk of the disease spreading is considered low.
RVF cases have been found in over 30 countries, mostly in Africa.
Affecting both humans and livestock, the disease is spread through infected blood, milk or bites from infected mosquitoes.
