WWII shells found at construction site in Nanchang City

More than 20 shells from WWII were found at a construction site yesterday in Nanchang City, capital of Jiangxi Province, Jxnews.com.cn reported.

Police in the city’s Xinjian County received a report yesterday that objects suspected to be war shells were found at a construction site in Zhongfang Village. Over 20 rusted war shells were found after police and bomb squad professionals dug around the site.

The Japanese Army had a base in Nanchang when it invaded China in the 1930s and ‘40s. The shells could still explode as they had detonators and warheads, the report said.

The shells were wrapped in sandbags and a special team was going to transport them to the Public Security Bureau in Xinjian County, where they will be destroyed, according to the report.
