Wahaha billionaire's hand slashed in attack, police say
Zong Qinghou, a billionaire who earlier this year was the richest man on the Chinese mainland, had his left hand brutally slashed in an attack, Hangzhou police confirmed.
An investigation was underway amidst today's media reports of the incident, which reportedly may have been a revenge attack.
Police didn't reveal more details. Media reports said Zong, the beverage magnate and owner of Hangzhou Wahaha Group, was attacked early Friday morning near his home in Hangzhou. It's reported that tendons of four of the fingers of his left hand were cut in the attack.
A medical expert said Zong's injuries were likely to heal and post-surgery exercise would likely help his fingers recover their function.
Zong topped a ranking of the 500 richest people on the Chinese mainland in March with 70 billion yuan (US$11.38 billion) in personal assets.
He was replaced this month by 59-year-old real estate tycoon Wang Jianlin, who the Hurun Research Institute said had a personal fortune of 135 billion yuan (US$22 billion).
