Wal-Mart refried old ducks for sale

A Wal-Mart store in Chongqing has been fined 340,000 yuan (US$51,927) for selling outdated tea-smoked ducks.

The ducks, refried after their shelf life had expired, was found in a spot check by officials.

The Industrial and Commercial Bureau of Jiulongpo District imposed a fine 10 times the illegal gains obtained from selling the ducks, Chongqing Economic Times said yesterday.

A total of 208 kilograms of outdated ducks were sold in the supermarket in February. A supermarket official said it was the result of an internal management problem.

Meanwhile, three men at an underground factory in Chongqing which used an industrial chemical to keep pig's blood curd fresh have been detained by police, officials said.

The factory was raided by officials last month and tests showed the amount of formaldehyde per kilo of the blood curd was 100 milligrams more than the legal limit.
