Wall falls to rail tracks at Nanjing station, causing train delays and cancelations

A wall near Nanjing South Railway Station's maintenance depot fell onto the railway tracks about 4:40am Thursday, due to heavy rainstorms in the east China's city.

The incident resulted in cancelations and delays of several train services there, as some trains could not leave the garage in time, said Shanghai Railway Bureau, which is responsible for railway operation not only in Shanghai, but also in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui provinces.

The authority added an emergency plan was soon carried out and the operation resumed at about 6:35am after repair.

Due to the rainstorm, a total of 23 train services scheduled to stop by two railway stations in Nanjing on Thursday has been cancelled, while 21 services of them were expected to travel through Nanjing South Railway Station, local railway authority said, adding affected passengers can get the ticket refunds in the railway stations.

According to Nanjing’s meteorological authority, the city launched orange alert for thunderstorm at 2:53am on Thursday, and yellow alert for rain storm at 2:11am. The alerts were removed at 10:52am.
