Wang's paddling home
WITH southern cities plagued by floods, one man came up with the idea of paddling a kayak home down the Hanjiang River from his workplace in central China's Hubei Province.
After coming off a night shift at 9am, Wang Bing, a 34-year-old employee at a local power plant, arrived at the Hanjiang River, took out his inflatable kayak, blew it up and set out on his 55-kilometer journey to his home in Wuchang City.
Wang used a GPS navigational device to avoid ships and big waves.
He stopped and got onto the river bank for a lunch break at noon. After 30 minutes, he set off again in his kayak and reached Nananzui near the intersection of the Yangtze River and Hanjiang River, where he took a taxi for the final leg of his trip home and a well deserved three-day break. The journey took about 10 hours, reported the Wuhan Evening News.
A fan of adventure sports, Wang said: "I love paddling, and I can enjoy the view and save on transport cost."
He bought the kayak for 3,800 yuan (US$556). It's portable and weighs just 12 kilograms.
Five other fans joined Wang this week, some of whom had no previous paddling experience. But Wang gave them careful instructions before they launched their vessels.
