Warden sentenced for beating inmate to death

A PRISON guard in central Hunan Province was sentenced to 14 years in prison for beating an inmate to death 20 days before his release.
Hengyang City Intermediate People's Court on Monday handed down the verdict to Wang Yigang, who beat Jiang Delian to death because Jiang "violated prison rules" in Xiangnan Prison on December 21 last year.
Wang turned himself in after Jiang died, reported today's Beijing Times.
Wang pleaded guilty for beating Jiang to death, but he denied involvement in six other torture cases as filed by the prosecutors.
The court also deprived Wang of his political rights for three years.
His prison has paid 750,000 yuan (US$112,853) in compensation to Jiang's family.
