Warm welcome for longer holidays
A proposal to prolong the holidays for Spring Festival and May 1 Labor Day during the annual legislature has won approval in an online survey.
Congress delegate Ma Yuanzhu, the president of a Sichuan tourism company, suggested extending Spring Festival by an extra week to 14 days, and lengthening the May 1 holiday from four days to seven.
Ma said his proposal would be a great boost to the tourism industry and make it more convenient for millions of travelers during the Spring Festival break if they did not have to rush back to work.
Qilu Evening News today reported that an online survey showed 60 percent of respondents would welcome the longer holidays. A Web user named Fcwind said longer breaks would be a good way to cope with the post-holiday blues.
Some office workers in big cities said longer holidays in May meant they could visit parents in their hometowns.
