Warmer China-France Relations

China and France unveiled plans yesterday to hold high-level contacts and strategic dialogues "at a proper time."

The announcement came in a press communique released by the Chinese and French foreign ministries in Beijing and Paris, Xinhua news agency reported. France said in the communique that it would not back "Tibet independence" in any form.

China suspended many contacts and called off a major summit with the European Union in anger over a December meeting between French President Nicholas Sarkozy and the Dalai Lama.
