Warning over 'easy' driver's license
THOUSANDS of Wenzhou residents take their driving test at shady schools in neighboring Jiangxi Province to sidestep "tough local road tests," it is claimed.
The city in coastal Zhejiang Province has more than 10,000 drivers with licenses issued by Jiangxi police authorities, Qianjiang Evening News reported yesterday.
"The driving test in Wenzhou is so tough that 'buying' a driver's license is a solution for some locals," said an officer with Wenzhou's traffic police division.
Police have discovered that many local drivers with a Jiangxi license are potential "road killers" and are prone to traffic accidents. "They have caused 20 major road accidents in Wenzhou since 2008," the officer said.
Yet police cannot revoke the licenses, which are in the jurisdiction of the issuance authority. Shady driving schools in Jiangxi, Hubei and Henan provinces promise an easy pass in order to enroll more students, the newspaper said.
