Warship Action Denounced

THE People’s Daily has criticized a US warship’s intrusion into Chinese territorial waters in the South China Sea, saying such action will only speed up the decline of US influence.
The newspaper denounced the USS Decatur’s intrusion into waters near the Xisha Islands on Friday.
China’s defense ministry branded the intrusion an “illegal and provocative” move and the foreign ministry urged the US to stop “irresponsible” and “provocative” actions against China’s sovereignty and maritime interests.
The warship’s move is a serious violation of China’s sovereignty and international law, the article said.
It also disrupted peace, safety and order on the sea, the article said. The intrusion happened as Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was visiting China.
