Watch workers strike over time
MORE than 1,000 workers at a factory owned by Japanese watchmaker Citizen Holdings Co Ltd in Shenzhen in south China's Guangdong Province have been on strike since last week over wage deductions.
Negotiations between workers and management are ongoing, said local sources.
The strike began last Monday morning at the Guanxing Precision Machinery Product factory.
The 1,178 employees complained that the factory has deducted 40 minutes from their timecards every day since 2005 for the time spent taking washroom breaks. They also claim the factory has not issued pension payments.
An investigation by the Human Resources Bureau of Shenzhen's Bao'an District, where the factory is located, said that the factory purchased social insurance and paid their wages according to the law.
Local government and the bureau are trying to help with negotiations.
