Watchdog investigates top provincial adviser
A SENIOR political adviser in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province is being investigated over suspected “severe violations,” the Party’s top disciplinary watchdog said yesterday.
The Party Central Commission for Discipline Inspection did not give details of the investigation into 59-year-old Zhu Zuoli, vice chairman of the Shaanxi Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
Zhu has worked in provincial economy posts since 1982 and was elected vice chairman of the provincial CPPCC in January last year. He was also director of the Shaanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission.
On Tuesday, it was announced that Ji Wenlin, deputy governor of the southern island province Hainan, is under investigation over suspected violations.
The 47-year-old deputy governor of Hainan is the first provincial-level official to be investigated in 2014, reported The Beijing News.
Ji was secretary and close aide to Zhou Yongkang when Zhou was minister of the Ministry of Land and Resources and then Party chief of Sichuan Province between 1998 and 2002.
Profiles showed Ji had close ties with three former top officials in southwestern Sichuan Province who are currently under investigation, when he was deputy director with the standing committee office of Sichuan Party Committee between 2000 and 2003.
The Beijing News also said that Ji is a close friend of Li Hualin, former deputy general manager of PetroChina Co, China’s largest oil and gas producer.
Li was removed from his post last August for “serious violations of discipline.”
