Watchdog issues revised warning for Nutricia formula
China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine yesterday issued a revised warning for consumers of New Zealand-made Nutricia Karicare brand infant formula amid the Fonterra scandal. The updated recall notification specified two kinds of Karicare formula processed between May 21 and August 2 this year.
A precautionary recall applies to 900 gram cans of Nutricia Karicare Stage 1 Infant Formula and Nutricia Karicare Gold+ stage 2 Follow on Formula, and the watchdog urged consumers not to use the products, which were not imported through official channels.
The watchdog also confirmed that Abbott’s infant formula that was under a precautionary recall did not contain the contaminated Fonterra whey protein. Abbott recalled two batches of Similac Gain Plus Stage 3 in 900g tin packages.
