Water cuts for 100,000 Zhengzhou residents
ABOUT 100,000 residents in Zhengzhou, capital of north China's Henan Province, have endured two days without running water after two pipes broke at the city's third largest water plant.
Workers are repairing the pipes at Dongzhou water plant and supplies were expected to resume to some homes this morning, Xinhua news agency reported.
Investigation by Zhengzhou's water authority found a construction team broke the factory's two 1.2-meter pipes on Tuesday morning while installing cables for the Metro system. The team's boss surnamed Chen acknowledged that they worked without a construction guide or a map of the underground pipes.
The accident forced the water plant, supplying 110,000 cubic meters of water every day, to stop operation, affecting 300,000 residents, mainly those living above two stories.
It also resulted in a water supply gap of 70,000 cubic meters a day for the city.
