Water supply restored after a pipe burst in Zhengzhou
Tap water supply for about 800,000 residents in Zhengzhou, capital of central Henan Province, has been largely restored one day after the city's water main burst yesterday.
Workers are still fixing the pipeline belonging to the Shiyuan Water Plant, the city's biggest water supplier after it burst at 10:45am yesterday and flooded the nearby roads.
The water plant, which pumps 37 million cubic meters of water a day to homes in the city's southwestern quarters, also broke down after it was flooded, cutting off water supply, China Radio reported today.
The aging pipeline and the crushing weight of passing vehicles on the road above the pipe were blamed for the burst, said He Chunbiao, an employee at the water plant.
