Wedding banquet causes 86 well-wishers sick

EIGHTY-SIX people in northwest Gansu Province were treated for diarrhea and stomachache after eating at a wedding banquet on Saturday.
The Wuwei City Health Bureau said 46 patients were hospitalized for further observation while others were discharged after treatment, China News Service reported today.
The patients were sent to three hospitals in Wuwei on Saturday night after they developed symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea and stomachache. They all ate at a wedding banquet in a local restaurant.
Initial investigation showed they consumed food that was contaminated by bacteria, health authorities said. The restaurant was suspended from operation after the food poisoning incident.
