Wedding photographer ruled to pay couple's damages

A bankrupt wedding photo studio was ordered to pay 1,500 yuan (US$237) to a couple for not finishing their wedding album before it was closed, the Songjiang District People's Court said today.
The plaintiff, surnamed Dong, said she paid 3,000 yuan to the studio early this year and only received digital copies of the photos. Dong said she planned to retake one set of photos as the set given was unsatisfactory, but she found the studio was already closed.
The studio owner surnamed Shen said Dong was a picky customer and the studio was unable to make an album for her before closing.
Shen also said he was unable to make Dong another wedding album now as the studio no longer exists.
The court said the studio should offer the couple a wedding album made with photographic paper according to the contract. Electronic copies could not be used as substitutes. It ordered Shen to pay 1,500 yuan to the couple for their losses.
Taking wedding photos at private studios has become popular among young couples because of cheap prices and creative styles. However, they are advised to check the reputation of a studio before making an advance payment as some studios may disappear overnight, the court said.
