Weibo ban over rumor
A WEIBO account was banned for spreading a rumor that the teenage son of renowned PLA singer Li Shuangjiang was immune from the law as the victim of the gang rape case dropped the charge against the teenage.
A Spanish newspaper, El Pas, reported that sources from Beijing said Li Tianyi, 17, who is now known as Li Guanfeng, only needed to do 300 to 400 hours of community service and will fly to the US soon, the microblogger, Lin Lushan, posted on Thursday.
Authorities dismissed the report, saying the boy is still in custody and ineligible for bail. Prosecutors are expected to soon file charges against Li Guanfeng, Beijing Morning Post reported yesterday.
The account was banned from posting and being followed for 15 days, it said.
In February, Li Guanfeng was detained by police for allegedly participating in the gang rape of an underage girl.
