Woman arrested for cutting off 6-year-old nephew's ears
AN aunt of the six-year-old boy who had his ears cut off in Hubei Province has been arrested in the January 28 attack, police said.
The boy’s father said the only problem in the family was an argument over money, but his family was baffled about how that would translate into such a bloody attack on a child.
The 35-year-old woman lured the boy out and cut off his ears and sliced his jaw with a fruit knife, police said in a statement. Villagers in Laohekou city heard the boy screaming, caught the woman and alerted police, according to the statement.
Police said the boy was in stable condition after surgery. His right ear, which was still partly connected, was successfully restored. But his left ear, found badly damaged in the weeds, could not be reattached, police said.
The boy's father, Wang Zhiyong, told a local TV station in an interview that “they (his younger brother and wife) were building a house and asked us to loan them some money. But I didn't give it to her.” Other than that, the father said they had been getting along quite well.
