Woman arrested for selling personal information

A woman was arrested in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province for selling personal information she obtained illegally, Xinhua reported yesterday.
The woman surnamed Liu acquired data containing personal information of hundreds of thousands of individuals, including 150,000 newborn babies and thousands of drivers, businesspeople and shareholders, Shenzhen police said.
She sold the 600-plus pages of babies' information at 300 yuan (US$47) per buyer. The data contained the babies' names, home addresses and phone numbers, police said.
Almost all the babies born between June2010, and August, 2011 were on the list. Police are investigating whether the maternity hospitals in Shenzhen were involved in the crime, Xinhua reported.
Liu confessed that another woman identified as A'li gave her personal data and she promised her a commission of about 100 yuan for each deal, the report said.
The case is still under investigation.
