Woman beaten to death 'for fun'

FOUR teenagers in southwest China's Yunnan Province have been detained for intentional injury after killing a mentally ill woman by beating her for nearly two hours.
They told police that they didn't know the woman and just beat her for fun, yesterday's Chuncheng Evening News reported.
The woman Qian Jinfen, 20, was found seriously injured on the early morning of April 21 on the street of Qujing City's Luliang County, her father told the newspaper.
Developing a mental disorder after she was beaten by a mad woman about 10 years ago, Qian sometimes went out at night when she was sick, the father said.
Her family took her back home but she died shortly afterwards.
The family reported the incident to local police.
Bored boys
Police investigation showed she was beaten by four middle school students aged from 15 to 16 from the same class.
They sneaked out of the dorm on the morning to buy food. They tried to go to a local Net cafe, but were turned away because all entertainment businesses were closed that day to join the national grieving for the April 14 Yushu earthquake that had killed more than 2,200 people.
The disappointed boys wandered in town and happened to see Qian and came up with a new idea of making fun - to beat her with sticks and stones.
They didn't quit and leave until they had beaten her for nearly two hours.
The boys were poor at academic performance, said their teacher Yang Maokun.
