Woman behind military boasts revealed as a fake
A WOMAN who said she was a member of a military art troupe and bragged online about her wealth and driving while drunk is being investigated.
Chen Shoufu, a press officer with the People's Liberation Army, said the true identity of Liu Yuanyuan, who claimed to be a member of a troupe under the Second Artillery Corps, had been uncovered although not yet publicly disclosed.
Photos she posted showing her driving a Porsche, carrying a Hermes bag, wearing designer sunglasses, and feasting on lobsters have been widely circulated online, triggered widespread controversy.
She put a picture of a young woman wearing military uniform on Weibo.com and claimed: "My beauty shocked the Party."
On April 26, she even wrote: "Tell you a secret! I'm drunk driving again."
Following a series of scandals concerning corrupt officials having close relationship with young women and boasts about affluent lifestyles, many people were ready to believe the worst of a member of the military.
"She used a fake identity to spread indecent information to tarnish the image of the Chinese armed forces," Chen said on his microblog at t.people.com.cn.
The entries have been deleted and Chen said the woman had apologized and was willing to accept punishment.
