Woman caught in arson case suspected of killing husband 13 years ago

A masked woman who set fire to 11 guesthouses in Liuzhou City in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region within three months was confirmed to be a suspect in her husband’s death in Hunan Province 13 years ago, Chinanews.com reported, citing a police announcement yesterday.

Two small guesthouses on Hangbei Road in Liuzhou were set on fire on February 18, while another guesthouse in the city’s Liunan District was set ablaze at the end of February. Police caught the suspected arsonist on May 16, the report said.

Police said the suspect, surnamed Yang, 46, was once sexually abused in a hotel room and held a grudge against inns and guesthouses with negligent management.

Police said they later learned Yang had beaten her husband to death with a hammer in Hengdong County in Hunan Province 13 years ago, according to the report. She had been a victim of domestic violence over the course of her marriage, the website said.

The report also said Yang was transferred to police in Hunan where she faces a possible murder charge.
