Woman cuts her own throat to evade creditors
POLICE in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, said today the young woman who claimed she was attacked by robbers and was cut in the throat last night made up the story to avoid paying debts.
Police said the woman, about 20 years old, hurt herself to win sympathy of her creditors, but she lied to police that two men attacked her after she withdrew cash from a roadside ATM machine.
The woman was not seriously injured and has received a surgery, said a Nanjing hospital where she was treated.
Violent robberies have been reported in several cities this month. All the victims were women walking alone and had their throats cut open by robbers. Police initially suspected the Nanjing woman was attacked by the same robbers.
