Woman feared losing leg after hit by falling glass
A 19-year-old woman might have to have her left leg amputated after she was severely cut today by a piece of glass falling from an office building in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province.
The wound in her leg was about 20 centimeters long and the woman surnamed Zhu fainted in a pool of blood. She was later sent to a nearby hospital. The accident happened around 8:30am as she was on her way to work, witnesses said.
That piece of glass, about 1 meter long and 40 centimeters wide, was believed to have fallen from the 21st floor of the Qingchun Development Building, according to its property management staff.
Police are still investigating the cause of the fall. Some witnesses said a window on the 21st floor had been replaced recently.
The young woman works for a steel company in the vicinity of this office building.
