A woman who poisoned her pregnant cousin with a veterinary drug and caused the fetal deformity in an attempt to compete for the love of a married man was sentenced to three years for intentional injury.

Li Xiuli blended the drug in the meals of Li Hongli and made her puffed up in just one month, the Muye District People's Court in Xinxiang, central Henan Province said.

Li Xiuli drugged her cousin after learning that the man decided to divorce his wife and marry Li Hongli because she got pregnant, China News Service reported today.

Li Hongli joined a pharmaceutical company in 2004 and soon became the mistress of company's manager surnamed Chen. She introduced her cousin Li Xiuli to work in the same company in 2007 and Li Xiuli later also became Chen's mistress.

For fear she would be out of favor, Li Xiuli poisoned her cousin using a drug designed to increase the weight of pigs.
