Woman gets US$277,191 compensation after being disfigured by her suitor

A young woman who was disfigured by her classmate will receive 1.72 million yuan (US$277,191) in compensation, Shushan District People's Court in Hefei rule today in Anhui Province.
Tao Rukun poured petrol on Zhou Yan, 20, and lit her on fire in February 2012 after she had rejected his romantic advances, Xin’an Evening News reported.
He was sentenced to 12 years and one month in prison for intentional injury in May 2012.
Zhou, a high school student in Hefei, suffered burns to more than 30 percent of her body. Her neck, breast and face were badly burned and one of her ears was lost, according to previous reports.
Zhou’s family had asked for 2 million yuan in compensation.
