Woman given feticide as she seeks cure for miscarriage
A nursing assistant in Shantou in southern Guangdong Province was suspended from her job after she gave three tablets of feticide to a pregnant woman by mistake.
The woman surnamed Zheng was two months pregnant and was seeking treatment at the Shantou Maternity Hospital to prevent miscarriage. The newly graduated nursing assistant gave her the feticide which was intended for another woman in the same ward.
The hospital acted quickly to save Zheng's fetus and after monitoring its growth for about a month, it declared yesterday that the fetus is growing well and healthy.
Liu Jiazhong, the hospital president, said it was a mistake by the nurse, not a malpractice by the hospital.
Zheng felt itchy all over her body after taking three tablets of Misoprostol on October 9. She was immediately given remedies to keep her baby, the Guangzhou Daily reported today.
